UK magazine trends 2017
Average circulation might be down, but the story isn't all doom and gloom.
Magazine circulation might be dropping but there is some resilience in the marketplace and with a number of new upstarts aimed squarely at very niche, smaller audiences, it isn't all doom and gloom.
With many lifestyle magazines running travel and days out sections or profiles of food producers or artisan crafters, there is still (and you could argue even rising) demand for good, trusted content that is targeted at their readership.
According to ABC circulation figures out earlier this month, the average UK magazine circulation has dropped by almost 6% year-on-year.
Having looked at the circulation breakdown though, there is some heartening news with a number of lifestyle titles (interestingly many of the countryside titles) faring better.
While it's easy to pull out selective statistics to skew the overall picture of the industry - as there is no doubting the intense competition and pared down budgets that magazines face - there are some underlying trends as the infographic shows.
